Early in the fourteenth century, legend tells that, buried near the desolate mountains of Montserrat, there lay the mysterious Monastery of Sant Monesnes de Caplloch. Exactly what the monks kept hidden behind those black imposing walls is a secret forever lost with the violent destruction of that infamous place in 1347.

Echoes of those dark days resound in the stories, still whispered in the local villages, where fact and legend blur into one: stories of strange and shifting lights floating above the mountains, of distant ungodly sounds in the dead of night, stories of the monk whose metallic face and glowing eyes still haunt the dreams of children – children who have seen the flicker of doubt that crosses the faces of parents as they deny the truth of chilling tales, but tell them all the same.

The manuscript, seized at that time by agents of the Church and buried in the vaults of the Vatican, had itself slipped into the realm of mythology.... until now. How the manuscript, whose existence ecclesiastical authorities continue to denied, fell into the hands of certain musicologists, remains unclear; how the unique and mysterious notation was finally deciphered and the significance, if any, of the so-called 'Cantonic Crystal' need not concern us here.

What you will hear, for the first time in seven centuries, has been dubbed culturally corrupt, historically hypocryphal and spiritually subversive. Those who fear the fire should leave this place now, those who seek the light cannot turn back.

This is the music... of the Electrosonic Monk.

We regret to report that, try as we might, it has proved impossible to uncover any concrete facts about the Electrosonic Monk himself. It seems that his concerts, or Sonic
Manifestations as they are known, are presented by four of the brothers of the Sacred
Order of the e-Monk, whose mission is apparently to spread His Music, lost for so many years, within the world again. We were lucky enough to be granted a short interview with Brother Photon of the Sacred Order, but were able to glean very little about exactly what to expect at a concert.

Q. Brother Photon, so far it seems that no-one has been able to talk directly to the Electrosonic Monk. Can you tell us: is he actually present at your "Sonic Manifestations"?

A. Indeed He is. For He is with us at all times and in all places.

Q. He seems to have inspired a highly devoted following, but have you yourself ever met this Electrosonic Monk? Has he ever spoken to you?

A. He speaks to us all through His Music.

Q. Do you think it might be possible to interview him in person? Do you know where we can find him?

A. "He who seeks Him in this world must begin the search within himself. His path shall be the Pentagram. His sign shall be the Waveform." Thus it is written.

Q. So what made you choose to dedicate your life to the service of the e-Monk and his Music?

A. We do not choose. We are chosen.

Q. I see. Apart from this mysterious manuscript containing the music of the Electrosonic Monk, we have heard much talk of the so-called "Cantonic Crystal". Can you explain something about the crystal and its function?

A. I am not at liberty to speak of the Crystal.

Q. What do you say to sceptics who claim that the Electrosonic Monk simply does not and never did exist, that this whole thing is an elaborate hoax, perpetrated, some say, by a well known National Power Company?

A. I pity them for they speak through fear. They close their ears to His Music because they fear its power.

Q. It's clearly a big responsibility to present this unique and fascinating music to the public. Are you at all nervous when it comes to performing at a Sonic Manifestation in public?

A. We are merely the channels through which His Music passes. We have nothing to fear. The Electro-Motive Force goes with us.

Q. And finally I have to ask: you must be aware that the disciples of this Electrosonic Monk have been dubbed heretical, that you have been described as a dangerous cult, and that you have even been linked to the recent disappearance of Marc Egea, the well-known Catalan hurdy-gurdy player. What do you say to these rumours of 'abductions'?

A. I know not of this Egea of whom you speak. The compulsion of those who have felt the Resonance of the Electrosonic Monk comes from within. But I must tell you this: if this so-called "Egea" has indeed chosen to take the Path, he will not return.
